How can I get involved?
Job opportunities:
We have advertised and recruited Deaf community fieldworkers for London, Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol, Cardiff and Glasgow. These posts are no longer available.
In early 2009, we are currently advertising short-term jobs (for 150-200 hours of work) for Deaf community fieldworkers in Newcastle and Belfast.
The local Deaf community fieldworkers will be responsible for recruiting 30 individuals that match the project criteria (e.g., participants must have learned BSL by age 7 and they must have lived in the same region for at least the last 10 years). To be a Deaf community fieldworker, we are looking for Deaf people from Deaf families who know their local Deaf community very well.
Participating in the project:
During the rest of 2009, we will be recruiting Deaf participants who are happy to be filmed and have the video clips of their BSL included in the corpus (i.e., as part of the on-line, open-access collection of BSL). Participants have to be adults aged 18 or over who learned BSL before age 7, who live in London, Manchester, Newcastle, Cardiff or Belfast (and have lived there for the last 10 years). Filming in Birmingham, Bristol and Glasgow is now complete.
Doing research:
If you are a student or a researcher at university who might be interested in carrying out a research project using the BSL Corpus data in the future, please get in touch with us.
If you are interested in working with us or participating in the project, please contact us. You may also contact the BSL Corpus Project Team researchers:
